Positive Youth Development.

The federal government has defined Positive Youth Development as an intentional, pro-social  approach that engages youth within their communities, schools, organizations peer groups, and families in a manner that is productive and constructive; recognizing, utilizing, and enhancing youth’s strengths; and promotes positive outcomes for young people by proving opportunities, fostering positive relationships, and furnishing the support needed to build on their leadership strengths. At CIC, we take PYD to the next level in recognizing that through their lived experience, youth are in a paramount position to have insight into their needs, wants, and desires. Their limited years of life experience should not be deemed as a deficit in determining the course of supports for themselves.  Regardless of whether the relationship is personal or professional, adults should approach supports and services as a partnership opportunity to empower youth to reach a healthier state of being.  Young people have a voice that should be heard not silenced.  Adults should be in the position of guide not dictator.
